Here is a work in progress shot of the current version of the 1777 Revolutionnaire musket that the new American Minuteman Class will carry. It shows basic wear and has no bayonet. Instead the Minuteman will get a general purpose farm beltaxe as his melee weapon.

Musket:

The 1777 Revoluntionnaire Musket was a French musket that was more or less a relative of the Charleville, but streamlined and lightened to make carrying easier. It used many of the same parts and fired the same ammunition and charge. It did have the advantage of being lighter and faster to carry than the 1763 Charleville. A supply of these muskets came from France to the American forces in the later stages of the war. The Minuteman here has been issued one. This is without bayonet and to simulate its lighter weight along with the readiness of the minutemen and their mobility, the Minteman class will be a light skirmisher class with decent hitting power and fair melee ability. It is a balanced class-- not as hard-hitting as line infantry, but faster and more mobile. It is better for melee than the Frontiersman, but not as accurate in shooting-- again a balance.

Melee Weapon: Farm Beltaxe

This weapon represents a basic small farm axe grabbed at a moment's notice and taken as a weapon into the field. It shows years of wear from work on a farm. Its range is mediocre, hitting power is ok. It's not as strong or reliable in a head-to-head melee as a bayonet, but combined with the minuteman's speed, it can make him an annoying and sometimes deadly melee opponent. It works well in hit-and-run tactics. Don't try to slug it out with the bayonet.

If you like shooting and hit-and-run tactics, but don't like the pure range fighting of the Frontiersman, this may be a good class for your style of play.

It's in our SVN beta test platform right now, which is, as always, a free and open download here on the site.

Rev looks better without the bayo.
Were you able to move the FOV back?

No - but you get used to it somewhat, it does not annoy me much anymore

Seems a bit samey to the Britsh native class. Also, with the new axe anis on Native, the hit is registered immediatly but the ani takes like a second to two to play through... I reckon this will make it really difficult to judge when to hit etc.
Btw, saw the 3rd person reload on American and its looking great, assuming its a WIP smile.gif

No luck with the viewpoint. It still drives me nuts because it has the feel that the gun is glued to your hip rather than out front more. I'd like to get it to move, but don't know much about that stuff because I haven't done any HL2 models.

Native-- the animation is slow, and that will have to be fixed.

Reload animations are work in progress.

Good find-- Iron sights are something I am 100% behind (pardon that pun). They would add much to the game because you'd get a feel for just how haphazard aiming the smoothbore musket can be. But at the very least, that may help the Revo point of view move a bit. Hopefully HP can work his magic with the code.

Another thing, about the walking animation, could you replace it with the one currently being used on the WIP 3rd person reload animation?
AND.. I know its not essential but a marching mode where you shoulder your rifle would please all us LB freaks smile.gif

Anything regarding animations would be up to Mel Gibson, who was in 51st when he worked on the current reload animation.

After some historical research, it appears that the bands and nose cap ought to have been steel colored rather than brass. Brass appears to have used on later muskets from the 1790s. But the earlier 1777 pattern muskets appear to have steel parts.
