The only thing I can think of would be that you don't have HL2. THe last time I tried launching BG2 by just having Deathmatch instaled, I got an error saying I needed HL2.
This problem **MIGHT** be fixed with the next version as it uses the Source SDK base.

If you want, you can try out the beta version in a week or so, assuming we can find someone to post news about it.

Or right now if you don't mind using SVN to get the files.

BTW, Just noticed this, is this BG1 or BG2? I think you posted in the wrong forum?

This seems to be about bg1 - in which case, you'll need Half-Life. Your CS anthology should let you download that via Steam, I'm not sure if you can still run it directly off of a standalone CS under Steam.

(I read virtually all posts, with the possible exception of bgl-related ones, so don't worry about anything going unnoticed, they just don't get a reply if I feel I've wasted more than enough time already by simply reading them.)

Oh I misread it LAWL. Okay, this isn't my problem then. Hasn't support for BG1 pretty much been dropped?

I'm more familiar with the source mods, but I think you do need to own a copy of Half-Life, if the games menu shows (preloaded) next to Half-Life, this is certainly indicating that you do not and thus launching bg will not work

As stated, you could play bg1 with the standalone version of CS, prior to Steam. With Steam, and the standalone version of CS, you should also have access to Half-Life (and Opposing Force, and Blueshift, at least that's what I got). If you don't have Half-Life under Steam, you'll probably not be able to play bg1 - I say probably because I've never tried running it off of CS or the like, you might want to try fiddling around with that, though.
