Oh, last thing, have any of the mappers considered making use of colourcorrection? Its a really powerful bit of kit and can do a lot for the atmosphere. You can control pretty much everything, saturation, contrast, levels, colour etc. Really helps unify a map.

I actually didn't know what colour correction in source actually is - there's been an option for it in the advanced video options for some time but I didn't know what it did. The idea of applying a color correction filter to a scene or location seems to be an interesting concept for many maps. BG_Fall could for instance have an effect strengthening red and green colours. I guess we should try out what effects we can achieve with it on our existing maps.

Here is some information on it:

edit: The props you uploaded work perfectly, BTW. The only problem is the collision mesh of the tree, which is bigger than the tree actually is.

Yup, its a great way to get the level matching up with the skybox as well. Here is a little experiment I did with the test map. Just a bit of fog and some colour correction tweaks:

That looks so sick. I'd like to see what our mappers can do with this.

I want to move this thread into the public section of the forums, so the 3rd party mappers can get use out of this. Does anyone have any objections?

I moved this over to the public section of the forums so 3rd party mappers could get some use out of it. I'm giving it a quick little bump as well so people take some notice.

Is the all coming in the update? So it's currently in svn?

I completely agree about the blending, tom. I tried to get it to work with the rock and snow blend on my new linebattle map by creating a new VMT but it failed. Three things: Where does that "blend" file come from, how do you make one, and do you need it BEFORE you compile a map. I'd love to blend twigs and leafs with grass but not have the edges of the leaves or branches get cut off or fade transparent. Sort of "trace" around it, understand?

You'll have to make your own blendmodulates. It's not that hard to make a simple one, but I imagine that pros can make blendmodulates that have some sort of pattern from the texture in them, to make it look even better. I read a tutorial on that a while ago, I'll look for it.

The simple one I made was just clouds rendered with green & black, then paint some red on it.
P.S. RnL has a bunch of custom blendmodulates, if you want to see how they look.

Um, is it possible to compile the windows seperately? They would make good props. You could have different versions: shutters open, closed, no shutters.

They are too beautiful to only be used once!

EDIT: I mean the windows on tomdon's house on page 1 ofcourse.

Can I make a request? Looking at the current detail.vbsp file you see detail sprites also supports models. If anyone can model some simple leafy ground plants or flowers like dandelions that would be great. With what I've tried to far I can't find any suitible stone or "debris" models either. Just a thought.

http://reptileworks.com/store/index.php?cPath=16_40

Gives you an idea. Obviously not the cacti.

short things. Or waist tall but with a single stem. Anything that'll fit well with detail sprites.

EDIT:Ground plants CG Textures really does have everything.
