Ive had a bit of a play of the new version in a server on my own and i have a few comments to make. The new guns look really cool and the animations are really good. Graphics wise the only thing im not sure about id the arms and their skin. The arms need to be a little bit fatter and the skin higher res and better looking. Another thing i think could be good is to add pictures of the soldiers when selecting them after joining a server, similar to DODS. At the moment it looks a bit strange because it is in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Gamplay wise im not sure as i have not yet played with other people. Apart from that good work, it is a big improvment on the last version rolleyes.gif Hope that this feedback helps

Edit: Another quick idea. It would be cool if at the begining of each round you had to fix you bayonet to your gun. and then maybe when it is not fixed you could use it as a knife.

Just a reminder: this isn't DODS, that's why some things are different.

Fixing and unfixing bayonets would double the amount of animations (and thus the workload) for each gun with a bayonet, and people would probably just fix it anyway, since a fixed bayonet is better than one in the hand.

as far as I remember, bayonets would have been fixed before entering battle, I think this was suggested before

apart from that, see my reply to your other post.

Apart from the fact that you can't use these bayonets as a knife, only as a dagger, there is little reason to even be able to not fix/remove them at this point in the development in bg2, there is no weapon sway or sight picture that could be affected by this (and these effects, coupled with ease of movement through difficult terrain, in turn, were the reason why, while fixed bayonets were standard practice, light/skirmish scout/rearguard elements may indeed have operated without fixed bayonets.).
That said, personally I'm of the opinion that you'll have more difficulty handling something you're not used to, even if it is actually more effective, meaning that the potential advantages a soldier used to loading and firing his musket with fixed bayonet (and no, unlike what Bernard Cornwell wants you to believe, bayonets don't permanently get in the way of reloading, and unless you're stupid enough to try and put an edge that will not keep to the rear portion of the weapon, you'll have a hard time cutting your arm with it) might gain through removing the bayonet will be minimal.

Well I like the progress in .18 so far, ofcoarse the bayonete bug is still a negative but i enjoyed playing it. Keep it up devs I'm ready for .18 official release :)

As am I, only when it's ready though.

EDIT: I don't know if it was the only server that SVN had. But on ambush when i pressed the join british or american button, the game would freeze. Go to a black screen and display and error message. It only did this on Ambush and some other map after Koth.

Which bayonet bug? We can't change source prediction, which, coupled with source vidlag means that in certain situations, melee attacks won't be as reliable as they used to be in 1.0f.

I'd like to give the team/class screen a bit of an overhaul, but that might take a while. For the moment I'll probably stick some team/class info html screen and see if I can get thing to read a .res file etc..
