yo

As I recently experienced playing public on scrim map really turns out into some fucking camp shit. Like on ambush: british capping middle flag and americans camp at spawn 24/7 without moving even 1 meter. A reason for that could be that bg doesn't have kill stats.
Apart from maybe avoiding a bit of that camping crap, it would be a nice new feature
What do you guys think about it?

What do you mean by kill stats exactly? Some bg2 servers have sourcemod plugins that log player stats.

No, the camping is because of the people. If bg2 had kill stats (and death stats), it would become a lot worse. Because people would want to have a high K:D ratio and camp for the optimal results. BG2 has no kill and death stats for a reason.

I don't think so grantel, cuz the 24/7 camp reloaders are always getting pwned by melee

@ Asner: nah I am not speaking of some crappy server stats tool, more like you have it in css. In other words, you get a point for a kill and not the damage

Well then, I don't see the problem. Maps are won with captures, not kills. If the Americans don't rush the bend in ambush (trust me it annoys me too) then there isn't anything you can do.

You can try joining the american team, but if you're the only person that rushes you'll probably have problems. It's probably a map specific problem with ambush because the last flag is too close to the american spawn so people don't even try to cap it as british (same for the americans when they hold middle). Is there any other maps that this happens on?

No, the original poster has a point. Having a Kill Death style of score system instead of damage would greatly encourage people to get get kills. I would still want to keep the damage notification to know if I did hit them and how much for so I know if I should just charge in there and stab them but if I do kill them at least get a 1 kill - 0 Death type of scoreboard instead. Idk why the damage system is even being used considering it doesn't really mean anything besides that person hit more people. But who cares if you hit someone? It looks much more skillful because even the best player on the team might have 3000 points but in reality is score is more like 30 kills - 50 deaths.

God maybe we should just keep track of scores by totalling everything up. Flag capture +5, kill+1, death -1, every minute the microphone is held -2, and for every 'The elders have forseen victory' +1

Now your just being ignorant. It's a good idea, and should be considered I don't understand what you could possibly see wrong with this. It works perfectly for every single other game out there and there is no reason it wouldn't work in this. But, guess what you just brought another great idea. Give points for flag capture as kills just like in Counter Strike. You capture the flag you get 1 or 2 kills counted on your scoreboard.

Doesn't happen much, but I agree with Grantel, players would just worry about their KD and what is the easiest way(for the 90% that isn't pr0) to stay alive and inflict damage?
yups; you shoot, hide and reload,...

already too much ppl don't give a flying **** about the map objectives, they just go for kills, plz dont make it worse

Uhhhhhh, I'm at a loss here on trying to figure out how a K/D ratio has anything to do capping the flags. Maybe you figure people will move around? Maybe you've never played CSS? Or any other FPS? Make the maps geared more towards actual capturing(You know, like maybe if you capture a flag, you get to use the cannons placed on that hill) and less towards constant reloading(they can only come from one way, around that bend? fire volleys.)

One thing I've learned from online gaming, is that 99% of gamers are mindless sheep.

Agree with the sentiments in this thread - create an incentive for capping flags and more often that not you will witness the majority of these clones rushing straight to it like, as if the prize was a Japanese schoolgirl who could satisfy their primal, geek needs.

In the end, there will always be those who camp, whether it be due to tactical ignorance of the map, or just because they value their Native's life as much as their own.

It's not just bg_ambush specific, it's gaming specific. Campers camp, it's what they do, but it's also one of the best ways to identify who is good and who is bad.

It's a novel thought, but not all units are an assault type. For example, the rifle classes optimally operate as support, and should be about 15 - 25m behind the primary assault.

Because the team that actually camps on that map gets rolled by the other team. Most of the time, it's the british charging.

Combining kills and caps to a "score" field makes sense in some ways, and some games handle it like this. It's worth considering, but I'm not sure the score actually changes much about how the game is played by people.
