damage randomization was dropped due to balance issues

I know it shouldn't, but somehow this is very satisfying and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;o

(It also shows that applying some thought beforehand is not always inferior to trial and error... ;P)

Played it last night, and it looks like it will be awesome! one thing i noticed was that it seemed to be moving really slowly and melee attacks were alot hard to pull off.

Other then that, keep up the good work!

So any thoughts on the Linux server? I don't think the small modifications to the code would cause the error, but I don't know what else could be the problem. It sounds like it only gives that error if the server and client have different versions of the game. nuke.gif

The Linux server doesn't compile on the normal Windows code, it has to be edited.. and when edited it doesn't work.

The changes made to the code will still allow it to compile on Windows. Someone should compile the current version with the changes on Windows and try to connect to a linux server to make sure it works. Then perhaps a patch with the updated dll could be released or something... Or just wait until v0.0.12 for linux support.

To run a Linux server (fixed):

Download the main server files:
Here

Put the Linux server file in the bg2/bin/
Here

As root type:
mkdir /home/slash
mkdir /home/slash/steam
mkdir /home/slash/steam/srcds
mkdir /home/slash/steam/srcds/bin
cd /home/slash/steam/srcds/bin
cp /path/to/your/srcds/bin/tier0_i486.so .
cp /path/to/your/srcds/bin/vstdlib_i486.so .
(Don't miss out the dots)

Your server should now run without the class tables error.

Right, after playing last night for a while (as [bella morte]) I actually came to like it more than the original. nevermind it seeming to be slower, and I actually like meleeing in this one better than the original.

Keep up the good work!

The smoke/rag dolls make it for me smile.gif. Such a great atmosphere with all the smoke, then spotting men charging through it towards you.

How OTT are the ragdolls? After all, this is big soft lead balls at low velocity, which should produce quite different results from modern bullets, but neither should send you flying in the first place, jsut falling/tumbling down.

That's how it's setup already. You shouldn't be doing any of that as root. In addition, you need more than just those two .so files, you need the HL2 engine as well:

./steam -command update -game hl2mp -dir srcds

That gives you the correct files in steam/srcds/bin and all other needed files to run a HL2 mod, Then you install BG2 into steam/srcds/ and the BG2 .so file to steam/srcds/BG2/bin. This is standard procedure for running a hl2 mod on Linux. Did you not do this before? Does the .so file work then? Noone has tried connecting to my server, I didn't set up my firewall on the server correctly.

Or are you suggesting the only files you need are the 2 hl2 .so's, BG2, and the BG2 linux .so ?

This is somthing I saw a lot of people talking about on servers. Tbh the distance the body is thrown is a bit much. If your hit but survive you also slide back a long way.

I updated the Linux server file:

http://www.battlegroundsleague.com/server_i486.zip

This should fix the problems. Someone with a good server please test it out ASAP!

Remember, you should have source dedicated server installed via:

./steam -command update -game hl2mp -dir srcds

Then install BG2 into steam/srcds/BG2/ and then unzip the .so file above into steam/srcds/BG2/bin.

The smoke is definitely pretty cool. Much better than the hl1 particles, plus it probably took almost no sweat and blood to make grin.gif

I just wish there was a way to turn the smoke back on for sv_turboshots

Ah, yes. sv_turboshots biggrin.gif
Filling an entire map of smoke when the I had set the lifetime of the smoke a bit higher..

About physics, I did reduce the impact forces to about 1/3rd a while back, but I guess that wasn't enough.

tjoppen, what i suggest is giving almost no velocity to the ragdolls, just let them fall down, you don't usually fly when you get stabbed anyway, you tend to collapse and die

sometimes you will fall behind yourself and sometimes in front of you when you die

a bayonet stab should usually result in the first one, it would feel odd when you run over somebody with it and he would fall into your face
the old gutshot animation for the playermodels might look good for a stomach/chest bayonet hit
