Today, we are also releasing a Line Battle map pack consisting of new maps made for this popular way of playing BG 2 in organized formations. The positive feedback received about the first large scale line battle map included in BG 2 2.0 encouraged Peacekeeper to create three new fanstatic maps.

First off in this map pack, there is a map of the Battle of Valcour Island.

The next map is called Alpine Pass and is a fictional mountain-site battlefield. This map features a wide array of terrain and movable, light artitterly pieces. They can be pushed across the battlefield and fire into the enemy ranks.

Finally, there is a new version of the popular Battle of Concord map including the same new cannons as Alpine Pass.

You can download the mappack here: http://www.acc.umu.se/~tjoppen/files/bg2/b....0-mappack1.zip

This should make a lot of people inordinately happy, now all we need is grenades, medics and flying dragoons and finally bg will be complete. :P

Playtested some of the maps last night, they look and play well though, and even the cannonspam can be a meaningful contribution in an organized environment, so good job, Peacekeeper. :)

The goal is eventually to devise realistic ballistics for short range grape shot for cannon. Reload times will probably be long, but in a pinch they can be used to bolster a defense. For now they're firing roundball that explodes. It's not 100% realistic, but it sets up some things to come.

I think the problem with scrim maps is that peacekeeper prefers making wide and open maps. I hope I will be able to create a few new maps in the little spare time that I have, and there should be one thing that really suits 5vs5 for the next bigger update.

Should probably keep it that way, cannons in a BGL scrim match on townguard wouldn´t end up that great...

Only "town" map where I'd want them is Trenton - sure, even there, their impact was probably more psychological than anything else, but they covered the pre-designated rally points and avenues of counter-attack of the Hessians (the two main streets), which added to the existing confusion and (alcohol-and-surprise-induced) inability to mount an effective defense early on.

Maybe PK should make a battle of trenton map. I have a lot of unfinished stuff lying around that I want to do first

Wasn't really asking for anyone to make a Trenton-based map, just pointing out that it's an instance in which cannons should be part of fighting over/in a town.

I just thought it would be a pretty nice map to do. Town LB through streets or normal skirmish gameplay could both work if that's all done right.

I think PK is working on vehicle cannons and has WIP maps running on servers with server admins he knows well. But that is just a guess.

its good to have cannons but why the maps are so big? i want a map when you immidiatly start infront with the enemy with cannons also. and you dont have to search them in endless lands.

i may create such a map.

And I may not want to play such a map.

Bigger maps, means there are alot more ground to fight on, and alot more variety!
Having maps where you fire 1 cannon at each other, shoot and charge is boring after 20 times.

Your patience is commendable, I'd probably be fed up with a spawn-to-spawn cannonspam map 20 times sooner. ;)

(There was an abomination of that sort for one of the very early bg2 versions, btw. Wasn't very popular though, even with the spam crowd, as the fast reload on the cannon meant that it was in synch with respawns rather often.)
