I am making a custom detail texture for use in a 3d sky. The map below is running at over 200fps everywhere. Clearly the map is just an empty area at the moment. Once the map is fully detailed it wont be so obvious that the skybox uses sprites. It should just provide a nice backdrop to the map.

nice work, i was think about somet like this the other day, but would it be possible to have a detail prop use tree in the playing area, using the tree props we already have?

yeah basicaly, trees in the playable area like i would place as a prop_static now. i know its done with rocks, not sure if it would work with trees though

Yes, but you can only use unlit models. Trees will look bad like that. The fern models in woodland are detail applied by the engine.

Another update. I have made new detail sprites for the ground, and sprites for the crops in the field.
