We've decided to open up the game repository for those interested in beta testing the latest versions of BG2. The way to access this is quite similar how the latest source code is accessed: subversion(svn). See http://forums.bgmod.com/index.php?showtopic=685
Windows: Step 0: Install an SVN client. TortoiseSVN works fine( http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ ). This may or may not require a reboot. For the rest, I'll quote Slash's guide from the team forums: QUOTE (Slash) Step 1: Go to your /Steam/SteamApps/SourceMods/ folder Step 2: Create a folder in there called bg2-svn Step 3: right click the bg2-svn folder and select "SVN Checkout ..." Step 4: Enter "http://svn.bgmod.com/game/bg2" in the first field and the checkout directory should already be filled with the path of your BG2 folder. Click ok and enter your user account when prompted. [you don't need an account for read access now - Tjoppen] [Edit: updated with new adress as stated in 2nd post - jackx] Done. Whenever you want to update this folder right click it and select "SVN Update". Linux: Step 0: apt-get install subversion Step 1: QUOTE (Slash) cd /usr/local/games/Steam/SteamApps/SourceMods/; svn co http://svn.bgmod.com/game/bg2 bg2-svn This is what I did on my box. It worked. Update, originally posted by gecko in February already. Adding it to this thread to have a useable guide all in one place.
QUOTE As you may, or may not know, the SVN access for the latest BG2 beta and source code has been offline. This was not our plan, and was not helped by the fact I had my exams right when it happened. However, all is back, and you can now access it through the following URL's:
http://svn.bgmod.com/code/ http://svn.bgmod.com/game/bg2/ -------------------- |

You can't have a "-" in folder names on Vista anymore btw.
I've downloaded and I'm ready. However I'm wondering if there is any easier way to keep up to date on the oncoming beta tests? Like a RSS feed, irc channel or a steam community? |

#battlegrounds on Gamesurge still exists, and the beta tests will probably be announced there as well...
You could always subscribe to the beta test schedule topic, that should send you a mail whenever someone posts there... -------------------- |

Okay, thanks for the quick answer. I'll be idling in the irc channel again. I kinda forgot all about it after several formats.

wrong path in linux version svn co http://svn/bgmod.com/game/bg2 bg2-svn should be svn co http://svn.bgmod.com/game/bg2 bg2-svn That linux you are talking about, is that server side? If so, will this work on windows as well. I don't mean the linux files them self, but is there a server side build for windows is what I am asking for, to run a server. -------------------- ![]() Make your sig less yummier. Dude, I first logged in after 9 moths with the name copywright on the. server, I ownt everyone with sword then I asked if I could join. TiE said ok, I threw in an app, then later that same day, some AP member was like dude.. copywright is banned from bgl.. Then tiedup was like are you banned? I said yes.. but I dont know why, then TIE said you seem like a nice guy so im going to keep you in. I said I am gonna go on my other account and change my name, so I went on butt pirate and Pmed him, and I threw in yet another application right after copywright ( of course he deleted it now ) and dani figured out I wa copywright like a week later - Copywright QUOTE (the.TIEdup14) has: I said I was going to do it has: I told Danihale Too. the.TIEdup14: DANIHEL IS AN IDIOT |

Do you have working server files for linux or windows. I would love to host 1 server for there to get better beta testing out of the game for the devs. I prefer windows, but linux is fine as well.

the SVN directory includes the full game directories, so server files are all present

Whats wrong for you? Some people reported problems getting the svn repo with certain SVN clients, you should try RapidSVN or another svn client.

There's been some intermittent problems with the SVN server lately.
Just smack your computer monitor, then try to update it some more. -------------------- fa⋅ce⋅tious [fuh-see-shuhs] –adjective 1. not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark. 2. amusing; humorous. 3. lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential, amusing, or frivolous: a BG2 developer. ![]() |

It means there was a problem with the server hosting the file.. nothing you can do about it.
(Except for flaming the devs! P.S. Which seems to be quite a habit these days.) |

uhh, i dont want to sound noobish but, i made the folder and used tortoise svn checkout. in the bg2-svn folder there is only materials and media. no application. and on steam there are no new games under the games tab. so how do i start the beta?
-edit- i did a few svn updates and i think everything is here (nothing new happens when i update) but i still cant figure out how to run it err, this is regarding the new update right...? EDIT ok for what ever reason after restarting steam numerous times (meaning like 5 times), it decided to pop up under games. weird, but it works now.
