Okay I discovered this. If you reload and then move the reload animation disappear and it looks like you arent reloading. This can sometimes be very frustrating when u cant see if the player is reloading or not.

Screenshots can be provided if ur too lazy to go and check for yourself.

Are you talking about the first person reload animation or the third person reload animation?

If you're referring to the latter , Half-Life 1 had that problem and I'm not sure if it's adressed in Half-Life 2.

Im talking about 3rd animations.

Btw kinda all the 3rd animations are messed, especially the way they hold the rifles, that annoys pretty danm much.

Everyone is aware of this. The game is still in Alpha/Beta development so they still haven't come around to taking care of the animations.

mate, the HL2DM reload anim is a quick reaching for a clip and slamming it in near the hand that would be near the stock or pistol grip. BG1 had a animation where the player fiddled around with it really obviously, I believe they are with the anims that ForK made for the player models, so you might see em next patch.
