I stole this idea from another website and thought I'd share.

Dropbox allows free 2GB accounts. Also, it has public folders. So, create a DB account, setup a bg/maps/ folder in the public and use downloadurl to setup fast download. Easy, fast and free.

I wonder, James, is it possible to enable a fast DL like this for a listen server?

You could do that Santi. Oh but, doesn't Dropbox also have a bandwidth limit so if people actually played on the server it'd then later on end up just going down/suspend or whatever?

for a listen server, yes. Just edit your server.cfg file with the sv_downloadurl information. As for bandwidth, I haven't noticed a slowdown.

I'd read somewhere before that Dropbox had a limit and would suspend your account or something if it reached that. Though, with BG2 not being so huge overall, I doubt anyone would reach it.

It depends on the file. My 1and1 account had thousands of downloads for ONE file but that was a new LB map. For the standard map (like bg_abbey or bg_horseshoe) you should only see a few hundred. Still, it's been two weeks and I haven't been throttled or suspended.

I'll let you know.

Turn out it does have a limit though, as I thought, nobody will ever really reach it in BG2.

Not sure if this article is 100% correct, but it states the bandwidth limit is on 10 GB per day, so ya, you will have a hard time maxing it I believe:

I'd also heard the 10 GB limit, though from somewhere else. So that was why I'd come to the conclusion of nobody in BG2 really ever reaching it. Though I read it at https://www.dropbox.com/help/45
So seems that this would work fine, Plus I'd used it for other games before and seemed to work fine there.
